Club history

We’re the City Democratic Club.
Not for a district, not for an issue — for The City.

Our credo

We support the services that our City values. As a healthy economy funds our values, we find that being pro-business is progressive.

Our community

Regular meetings feature speakers from all areas of government and politics. All are welcome. We typically meet on the third Thursday of select months throughout San Francisco.

Our history

Born in 1980 as the District 5 Democratic Club, we watched district elections fade away and rise again. We saw the resurrection of our historic cable cars and the rebirth of the F-line trolley.

We saw City Hall, the Marina and the Bay Bridge rise up from Loma Prieta, better than new. We watched the Ferry Building emerge from the shadows to become a vibrant gastronomic hub. We supported the freeway reconfiguration that changed an offramp into Hayes Valley.

We cheered our City on to four Super Bowl victories and three World Series championships.

Now, in our fourth decade, we are one of San Francisco’s longest established Democratic organizations.

Our membership has ties to every Mayoral administration since our founding.

We are proud to be chartered by the San Francisco Democratic Party. Our bylaws can be viewed here.
