Happy new year!

A happy new year to all from us at City Democratic Club. This will be a very busy political year, with so many unpleasant things happening in 2017.

A few of us started the year at the SF Democratic Party’s Unity Breakfast, where we heard inspiring speeches from across the president’s shithole spectrum.

So, hello from our president and three of our board. You’ll be hearing more from us soon! (Can you spot the two candidates?)

February social and officer nominations

City Dems is kicking off 2017 with a social.  Join us on February 23 at Aaxte (pronounced “ah-shay”) at 2174 Market Street for snacks and beverages. Newly-appointed District 8 Supervisor Jeff Sheehy will be our special guest.  Come meet Supervisor Jeff!

The Club meets about every other month, usually on the third Thursday at about 6:30 pm at the Chancellor Hotel.  We have an Executive Board that includes president, 1st and 2nd VPs, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, parliamentarian, and at-large positions. We will open nominations for our Executive Board officer positions during the February social.  (Election will be held on March 16.)

We invite those interested in helping to lead the longest-chartered Democratic Club to express their willingness to serve. We are an organized, accomplished, intelligent group of folks who welcome fresh ideas/new blood.  And, we have fun along the way.

Meetup:  Thursday, Feb. 23
Time: 6 pm to 7:30 pm or so
Place: 2174 Market Street between Sanchez and 15th – please carpool, take SF transit, or any non-offending ride share.

See you there!

Pump up the volume

This election presents remarkable challenges and unpredictability in ways that haven’t been seen in a long time. The presumptive nominees are profoundly polarizing, each with a fervent core of backers and also with 40+% of the nation being detractors.

It will be critical to turn out voters for Clinton. We and all of the Democratic clubs across the City and across the nation need to lean on this, and with 70% of City voters being Democrats already, we and the City clubs need to think bigger.

Let’s get this thing done. Failure is not an option, and its name is Trump.
